The Centre

The work of the Centre for the Study of Christianity in China - at Oxford, England:

- focusses on critical academic reflection on the history and contemporary contribution of Christianity to China and Chinese culture


- draws together scholarship from around the world on aspects of Christianity in China


- provides a meeting place and resource base for academics in related disciplines (history, philosophy, politics, anthropology and culture etc.) engaged in study of different aspects of Christianity in China


- draws on the community of scholars in Oxford and the world-class library resources of the Bodleian


- contributes towards enabling the Chinese Church to re-engage with her Christian past and present


- allows western scholars of all disciplines to better understand and appreciate Chinese Christian experience and belief


- promotes collaborative scholarly and pastoral engagement with Chinese theologians and church leaders in understanding and nurturing Chinese theology and Christian formation


- encourages active participation in international appreciation of the narrative of Christianity in China both past and present
